The Power of Prayer

Is it not a fact that the majority of Christian men and women who pray to a Living God know very little about real prevailing prayer? Yet prayer is the key which unlocks the door of God's treasure-house. It is not too much to say that all real growth in the spiritual life-all victory over temptation, all confidence and peace in the presence of difficulties and dangers, all repose of spirit in times of great disappointment or loss, all habitual communion with God-depend upon the practice of secret prayer.Prayer is much more than merely "getting God to run our errands for us," as someone puts it. It is a higher thing than the beggar knocking at the rich man's door.

The word "prayer" really means "a wish directed towards," that is, towards God. All that true prayer seeks is God Himself, for with Him we get all we need. Prayer is simply "the turning of the soul to God." David describes it as the lifting up of the living soul to the living God. "Unto Thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul"When we lift up our souls to God in prayer it gives God an opportunity to do what He will in us and with us. It is putting ourselves at God's disposal. God is always on our side. When man prays, it is God's opportunity. The poet says:

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire,
Uttered or unexpressed,
The motion of a hidden fire
That trembles in the breast.

"Prayer," says an old Jewish mystic, "is the moment when heaven and earth kiss each other."

Prayer, then, is certainly not persuading God to do what we want God to do. It is not bending the will of a reluctant God to our will. It does not change His purpose, although it may release His power.

Rev. Darek McCullers, Webmaster

The purpose of this website is to aid persons in releasing the power of prayer for themselves.

As a minister for 20 years, I have found prayer to be an indispensible means of grace alongside worship, recieving the sacraments, reflection, instrospection, hearing thw word (study of the bible), and doing the word (applying the Bible to daily life).  These are what I view as the 7 means of grace. Since prayer is so personal, it's got to be at the top of the list and is why I am developing this website.  Some of my aims are:

  • To Share Meaningful Ways that I have Learned To Pray
  • To research and share developing thoughts or theologies of prayer
  • To agree with visitors to this site on thier prayer requests
  • To share testimonies of reqlized prayers and its impact on individual's faith journeys.
